Na’auao: Living the Dream

LTD - MandyAs a partner of the Na’auao Project, Kula no na Po`e Hawaii kicked off the “Living the Dream” series with Na’auao students at Stevenson Middle School today. The Living the Dream series will be held monthly at Stevenson and introduce students to professionals from different careers and provide a safe environment for students and professionals to have open conversation. We hope to spark career interest in students by giving them real-life examples and exposing them to the personal values needed to achieve success in their future endeavors.

Our guest speaker was Mrs.Mandy Lyman, a born and raised Papakolea resident, that found her passion for Hawaiian music in the footsteps of her grandmother Aunty Genoa Keawe. Mandy, a renowned Hawaiian musician in her own right, shared her story with students and the importance of positive decision-making through the value of KUPONO (to stand in righteousness). Students learned different values for every letter in KUPONO and did a group activity to practice what they learned.

Mahalo Mandy for your time and teaching, we appreciate you and wish you the best in all you do!
